Rachel's Artistic Biography
Rachel Rivera, a soprano from the Portland, Maine area, has just received her Bachelor's of Music performance from the University of Southern Maine. She is currently a student of Scott Wheatley, and has been taking voice lessons for seven years. Miss Rivera had been in choir for twelve years and was most recently apart of the USM Chamber singers. She has been in five professional operas: Opera Maine’s production of Hansel and Gretel as part of the children’s chorus, Opera Maine’s production of Tosca as part of the adult chorus, Opera Maine’s production of Carmen as part of the adult chorus, Opera Maine’s production of La Traviata, and opera Maine’s production of The Magic Flute. Furthermore, Miss Rivera was in a professional musical with the Ogunquit Playhouse in The Hunchback of Notre Dame as part of the chorus and her voice was featured in a NYC puppeteer play The Architecture of Great Cathedrals. Her freshman year of college, Rachel Rivera sung the title role in Amahl and the Night Visitors in The Hartt School’s production. At USM Rachel Rivera was Anne Page in a scene from The Merry Wives of Windsor and the understudy of Anne Page in The Merry Wives of Windsor, Mercedes from Carmen in the card trio scene, and Susanna from The Marriage of Figaro in a trio scene. She also sang Guilietta from I Capuleti e i Monetecchi in the aria scene Eccomi in lieta vesta...o quante volte fall 2018. Miss Rivera had a full length junior recital on May 5th, 2018 and her full length senior recital on May 4th, 2019. She attended the Bel Canto in Tuscany three-week long intensive in August, 2018 and sang as Susanna in the Count, Basilio and Susanna trio from The Marriage of Figaro.
Rachel Rivera has also done some local theater work and was in the Freeport Players production of The Mikado as a main chorus role in which she had two solos, she was part of the Radio Show in which she starred in two of the scenes as Jane from the Dick and Jane sketches.
Rachel was asked to be a soloist in a Maine-wide album that is being created this summer and will be giving her first fundraising concert on August 15th in Portland, ME titled "A Voice for the Voiceless". She is also doing a sound healing concert with Brenda Colfer in Hallowell, ME on August 2016
Along with being in many productions over the years, Miss Rivera received second place in state NATS division IV, won the talent award in the Miss Maine Scholarship Pageant in 2017, and was awarded the Rising Star award at The Minuetto Music Festival, June 2018.
Now that she has graduated, Miss Rivera will be heading to Vienna, Austria at the end of August for a twelve week language intensive at Actilingua to learn German and study voice at the Vienna Conservatory.
She is also excited to be playing the role of London Time in ItGrl Empire's new cartoon coming out in 2020.
